'On Connection'
2025
On Connection is an artistic project that investigates the notion of connection as a vital, affective, and territorial experience. The proposal is articulated through the creation of a photographic textile mantle, conceived as a sensitive cartography of displacements, encounters, and human bonds formed throughout a migratory life. Through photography, textile, and mixed media techniques, the project seeks to materialize the visible and invisible traces left by movement across territories, cultures, and communities.
The idea of connection that sustains this project is informed by the reflections of Kae Tempest, who emphasizes the need to reconnect with oneself in order to establish genuine relationships with others. In this sense, On Connection understands artistic creation as a relational act: a space where personal stories, shared memories, and emotional landscapes intertwine. Textile occupies a central place in this research. In the Chilean context, textile has historically functioned as a support for memory, storytelling, and the transmission of knowledge, especially within practices linked to Indigenous communities and female traditions. By working with photography on fabric, I use the material not only as a support but as a sensitive body that absorbs time, gesture, and experience. The choice of alternative photographic techniques—such as tea-toned cyanotype—together with embroidery, printmaking, and collage, reflects a desire to slow down the production process and to incorporate a spiritual and ritual dimension into the act of creation.
